Health care in prisons and jails in California is in a state of crisis. There is no quick fix and lives are at risk. In the last of our three-part series, A Crisis of Care: A System on Life Support, we’ll hear from experts offering an insiders view on the continuing health care crisis in California’s prisons. We’ll hear from the former federal receiver, a whistleblower correctional nurse, a former prisoner turned advocate and from a long-time prisoner rights activist who discusses the state of prison health care and the potential for change.

Featuring:

Grace Ortega, daughter Gina Muniz died while sick in prison; Robert Sillen, former California Prison Health Care Receiver; Dee Garcia, prison rights activist and former prisoner; Joey Upland, veteran correctional nurse; Donna Willmott, Legal Services for Prisoners with Children family advocacy coordinator.
