Development Associate
National Radio Project, producers of the Making Contact radio series and www.radioproject.org, seeks a person with a passion for development, fundraising, and communications. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
In coordination with the Executive Director, lead development activities, co-create the development plan, engage our listeners and supporters as well as our grassroots social change partners.
1. Grassroots Fundraising (76% of our revenue)
Manage grassroots fundraising efforts to expand our solid base of individual donors.
- Use a variety of off-line and online techniques including crowd-funding, on-line solicitations, Emma/EmailNow and DonateNow web pages and communications tools
- Develop written materials for promotional, outreach and fundraising efforts
- Manage our snail mailing appeals twice a year
- Gifts processing, data entry, and generate thank you letters , using Filemaker Pro database
- Steward relationships and make ‘direct asks’ of current major donors
- Research and cultivate relationships with prospective donors
- Engage volunteers, board members and staff in fundraising activities
- Support house parties and events
- Write E-Newsletters and E-appeals
2. Foundation Fundraising
- Write LOIs and grant proposals
- Cultivate relationships with current foundations
- Research prospective foundations
- Gather testimonials from social change groups who benefit from our radio programs
- Communicate with foundations, and philanthropic networks
3. Participate in the overall organizational development of National Radio Project/Making Contact
- Attend the weekly team meetings with staff interns and volunteers, which include weekly review and critique of radio program
- Commit to Making Contact’s vision of producing independent media that informs audiences and inspires them to action
- Additional duties as assigned
Skills Required are those related to the above. Experience in the non-profit development field and a track-record of raising money is fundamental to strong applicants for this position.
Compensation: Salary range 37-43k DOE plus healthcare and vacation package; training and professional development opportunities. FT: This is a full-time, position at our office in downtown Oakland, CA. For experienced candidates could be crafted to be four days a week, let’s talk.
