Why Making Contact?

Why Your Station should carry
Making Contact

There are many reasons to carry Making Contact. Here is a partial list of what we have to offer:

  • Making Contact allows communities to link to each other, by sharing each others’ experiences. We support localism by covering stories from all over the world, and illustrating how those local stories have international resonance.
  • Sometimes, stations hear our programs and decide to expand the coverage using their local producers.
  • We are proud to have a network of first-class freelancers submitting segments from all over the world. This ensures a variety of voices and points of view, and allows us to use a lot of live tape and sound-rich local ambience in our programs.
  • We don’t use our programs to duplicate some of the voices that are already being showcased in on commercial radio and mainstream media. You will hear opinions from people that span the political and social spectrum, not just the experts, or the usual people that would speak publicly about something.
  • Many stations feel Making Contact is an important part of their lineup because it helps them create balance and complement the other programs they run. The way we look at it is, we are about balance in the broader sense of balancing out the limited voices heard on commercial radio and mainstream media.
  • We try to create balance by airing voices and perspectives that you don’t normally hear – from the people who actually live with the public policies that affect their communities.
  • On our website and paper program descriptions, we publish, with permission, the contact information – including email and website links – of our guests. This gives listeners/readers the opportunity to contact those people/organizations and ask their own questions.
  • What if someone from your local community has a story that you’ve covered? We love to nurture, promote and work with local station personnel to get their local stories heard nationally. Please see our submission guidelines.
