LGBTQ (Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer) programs

Many people focus on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) issues during June (Gay Pride Month). We seek to cover these topics all year round. We explore issues facing LGBTQ people that are not adequately addressed elsewhere, and explore the connections to other social justice issues. We have explored LGBTQ Youth issues in programs produced by our Queer Youth Collaborative.

An archaic law making homosexuality illegal in India has finally been overturned. On this edition, we go to India, to hear about the gay community’s struggle for legal rights, and the prospects for cultural acceptance.

LGBTQ perspectives are largely absent from public discourse – especially the views of young queer people. On this edition, we hear from queer youth who are making radio to share their stories, perspectives and create social change.

It's a case that not only made headlines across the nation but also has more questions than answers. Was it self-defense or attempted manslaughter? An assault by a lesbian gang or a homophobic attack? On this edition: the story of the "New Jersey 7."

Activists and visionaries from the New Orleans Women's Health Clinic who are reinventing their community's health and wellness landscape one person at a time. This program includes a segment on how the ongoing state of "rebuilding" translates into the daily lives of queer and transgendered people.

01-07 Lockdown on Life: Stories from Women Behind Bars
This program includes a segment on the personal stories of transgendered-women forced to live among hundreds of men in a California prison.

24-06 LGBTQ: On the Streets, In the Schools, Outside the System
Thousands of Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer (LGBTQ) youth are forced out on to the streets in the U.S. each year, and face harassment, homophobia and even violence in their high schools. In addition, there are many LGBTQs outside this country seeking an increasingly difficult path to political asylum in the U.S.

How the government is trying to increase marriage regulation: preventing same sex marriages on the one hand, and on the other, promoting marriage as an economic solution for low-income women.

A couple navigating their relationship through the crossfire of gender identity, one woman's experience of changing her sex, and legislation and public education efforts to protect transgender people.

How queer identity intersects or collides with racial identity in the activist community. We'll also take a look at the fluidity of identity, from labels to families.

A look at the hostile climate for LGBTQ youth, youth activism in schools, and a radio show in Chicago for queer latino youth.

This program includes a segment on international Lesbian rights.

25-99 Where to Turn: Queer Youth, Support and Identity
About one-fourth of all teenage runaways and an equal percentage of homeless youth are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, queer or questioning. On this program, you'll hear from some of these young people, their experiences and how they are organizing networks of support.
