Collaboratives and Initiatives

Whenever possible, National Radio Project works with other independent media groups, research organizations and community groups on Collaboratives and Initiatives, each of which focus on a particular issue. The work engaged jointly may be centered on program content and framing, production training, funding pursuits, cross promotion, and/or distribution.

In addition to formal or ongoing Collaboratives and Initiatives, National Radio Project also invites freelancers, station personnel, grassroots groups and community members (listeners, activists, academics, and others) to pitch a show idea or suggest topics, guests, angles and/or sources. They might also assist with creating the free packets sometimes offered to listeners. Assisting with listener packets includes suggesting written materials and other post-production networking and distribution.

Exploring Peace and REAL Security Initiative

Will the world’s future be shaped by continuous war or by the formation of a just and peaceful global community? National Radio Project’s 2005 Peace and Security Initiative examines human rights, war, nuclear proliferation, global economics and environmental degradation in order to explore what peace and real security could mean. more...

Media Collaborative on Columbia

Foreign Policy in Focus, Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR), the Institute for Public Accuracy, all do work on U.S. involvement in human rights, environmental and militarization issues in Colombia. Through a collaborative with these groups, we are sharing information on a regular basis, assisting one another with research, promotion, distribution, and more. more…

Queer Youth Collaborative

The Queer Youth Collaborative is a training and production partnership between National Radio Project and the affirmative-action radio training Apprenticeship Program at KPFA. The group produces programs exploring issues facing queer youth that are not adequately addressed elsewhere. more...

The Welfare Radio Collaborative is a creative media project, with the Women of Color Resource Center, which promotes in-depth reporting on issues related to women and welfare. Civil Liberties Initiative

The terrible events of September 11, 2001 changed many aspects of U.S. society. The official response was an aggressive military stance abroad and a rollback of civil liberties at home that many are arguing has become a war on free speech, critical thinking and political dissent.
