Crisis in Montes Azules Delegation Report

During March 2003, a twelve member emergency delegation visited the Montes Azules Biosphere Reserve. They were there to learn first hand from indigenous villagers about threats from the Mexican authorities to forcibly remove the villagers from the area.

One of the delegates, Paul Hixson, produced a video documenting the trip and what the delegates saw. A streaming version of this video, "Crisis in Montes Azules," can be viewed by clicking on one of the three links below. Viewing time is 51 minutes.

You must have the free Quicktime 6 player installed on your computer to view the video (works on both PCs and Macs). Click here to download the installer.

FOR MODEM USERS: Because the larger files have much more data and therefore will take longer to download and play, 56 kb modem users should click on the link for the "smaller" video -- and should be prepared to wait as long as a minute before the video actually starts playing. This is due to the fact that the video is 51 minutes long and it takes a while to download enough data to fill the client buffer. We know this will seem like an eternity, but trust us, the video will start to play on its own as soon as your computer has downloaded sufficient data.

FOR BROADBAND USERS: Broadband and T-1 users should select either the medium or large files and also be prepared to experience some initial delay while the stream pre-buffers sufficient data for the video to begin. In general, larger files will display bigger and higher quality versions of the video.
