MAKING CONTACT - a weekly international radio program

From Brooklyn to Bethlehem:
Separate Histories, Common Struggles

February 6, 2008

You may have heard the phrase: “No one is free until all of us are free.” The idea of solidarity conveys a shared interest in ending oppression; It’s a concept that has inspired many throughout history to risk everything, and join with others in struggle, with the hope of creating a better world.

In this program, we’ll explore the power of solidarity from the perspectives of young people in Brooklyn, New York, a member of the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement, and a historian and mother who lives in Palestine.

Featuring:

Sheena Johnson, member of the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement-Oakland, CA; Sonia Nimr, Professor, Oral Historian and Ethnographer at the Bir Zeit University, Ramallah, Palestine; Palestine/Israel Education Project youth producers.

Executive Producer: Tena Rubio
Producer: Andrew Stelzer
Associate Producer: Puck Lo
Interns: Samson Reiny and Elena Botkin-Levy
