MAKING CONTACT - a weekly international radio program

Trouble at Sea: The State of the World's Oceans

October 8, 2003

While seemingly indestructible, the ocean is a fragile eco-system. It's increasingly under threat from over-fishing, coastal development, and pollution. On this edition of Making Contact, we'll take a look at the over-all health of the ocean today, along with a close-up of the impact of cruise ships and shrimp farming.

Featuring:

Sylvia Earle, Marine Scientist, National Geographic Explorer in Residence; Ransom A. Meyers, Killam Chair in Ocean Studies at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia; Roger Rufe, President of the Ocean Conservancy; Ross A. Klein, Author of Cruise Ship Blues; Russell Long, Executive Director of the Bluewater Network; Dr. Khushi Kabir of Nijera Kori in Bangladesh; Becky Goldberg, Senior Scientist at the Environmental Defense National Headquarters; Bob Rosenberry, Editor/Publisher for Shrimp News International; Jennifer Dianto, Seafood Watch Manager at the Monterey Bay Aquarium; and Kaitlin Gaffney, California Central Coast Program Manager of the Ocean Conservancy.
