MAKING CONTACT - a weekly international radio program

Just War? U.S. Invasion of Iraq

April 2, 2003

President Bush said in his March 17, 2003, address -- two days before the beginning of the invasion of Iraq -- that "the United States and other nations have pursued patient and honorable efforts to disarm the Iraqi regime without war." Why, then, did US officials attempt to coerce other members of the United Nations Security Council to support US war efforts? Or, why has the United States rejected statements by UN inspectors and high-level Iraqi defectors that there's no evidence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq?

On this edition of Making Contact, we take a look at the U.S. push toward war. We also examine US plans to develop and potentially use so-called mini-nukes.
