Trade Coup: Plan Puebla Panama

November 21, 2001

A massive development project is underway in Latin America. As the Panama Canal fails to meet the shipping needs of multinational corporations, Mexico, Nicaragua, Colombia and other countries are adopting and advocating Plan Puebla Panama which would expand the number of transoceanic canals, and build roads and highways for trucking up and down North and South America. It also allows private interests to gain greater access to natural resources. On this program we take a look at Plan Puebla Panama.

Featuring:

Orin Langelle, co-coordinator of Action for Community and Ecology in the Regions of Central America (ACERCA); Andrés Barreda, economist; Gustavo Castro, Center for Political and Economic Research and Community Action in Chiapas (CIEPAC); Antonio Perez Mendez, President of the Organization of Traditional Healers of Chiapas; Carlos Gomez, member of the Organization of Traditional Healers; Cuatemoc Cardenas, ex-mayor of Mexico City and three-time PRD presidential candidate; Subcommandante Marcos, spokesman for the Zapatista National Liberation Army (EZLN); Resident of Roberto Barrios, Mexico.
