January 12, 2000
The mass media under-report or ignore many issues vital to the welfare of the public. Among them: root causes of poverty and hunger in the United States. On this program, we take a look at two independent media projects that are working to change this situation.
This program includes audio footage from the 1999 Homelessness Marathon, a 14-hour radio broadcast that aired direct from the streets of Philadelphia.
Featuring:
Frances Moore Lappe, American News Service; Jeremy Weir Alderson, Homelessness Marathon; Gaylen Tyler, Kensington Welfare Rights Union; Erica, Billy, Ray Ray and Indio, homeless and formerly homeless folks.
