20 Year Low? Poverty in the U.S.

October 27, 1999

This Fall, the Clinton administration released a Census Bureau report claiming that poverty is at a 20-year low. Nonetheless, over 34 million Americans live below the poverty line. On this program, you'll hear from some of the people who aren't prospering from the so-called economic boom. We also examine some of the roots and cycles of poverty in the United States.

Featuring:

Paul Boden, co-chair, National Coalition Civil Rights Organizing Project; Joel Blau, author, "Illusions of Prosperity" and "The Visible Poor: Homelessness in the United States;" Tony Taylor, New York Coalition for the Homeless; Red, who has been homeless in San Francisco for 13 months.
