MAKING CONTACT - a weekly international radio program
March 10, 1999
From a long-running newspaper strike in Detroit, to anti-logging protest in the Northwest, activists are putting their causes and bodies on the line and risking arrest to make a point. Often media coverage of such events, be it blocking delivery trucks with a human chain or refusing to unload cargo from freighters, lacks sufficient context; activists may appear impetuous or quixotic to someone who isn't aware of the sequence of events that led them to civil disobedience. On this program, we take a look at the use of civil disobedience as an organizing tactic.
