MAKING CONTACT - a weekly international radio program
October 21, 1998
Countries around the world, including the United States, signed onto the Kyoto Protocol in December 1997. The treaty was meant to reduce fossil fuel emissions that many scientists believe are causing global warming. Nearly a year later the US Senate has yet to ratify the Kyoto agreement. And, multinational oil companies have been waging a glitzy campaign to debunk the severity of the so-called greenhouse effect. On this program we'll talk with two leading activists about global warming and corporate interests. You'll also hear what Shell Oil is teaching school kids about nature and gasoline.
Featuring:
Joshua Karliner, Corporate Watch; Oronto Douglas, human rights attorney and environmental activist; Ken Saro Wiwa, writer, journalist, poet, environmental activist; Dr. Helen Caldicott, pediatrician, founding president, Physicians for Social Responsibility.
