Alternative media, alternative medicine, alternative radio; the word alternative is used so much these days it’s becoming less an alternative than commonplace. Even the edgy lyrics and guitar chords of Kurt Cobain- which brought about the birth of the term “alternative music,” can now be heard on every top 40 radio station. What starts out as a truly new idea- rejecting the current order of things, often becomes accepted, replacing antiquated ideas and structures. On this program, we take a look at alternative economics and how new ideas about markets, currency, and resource allocation are fairing in a world dominated by capitalism.
